It's a hilarious idea, hats off. He should be rewarded with a proper TL interview.
I'm not sure how to describe the voice that is supposed to be Martyn. Constipated sounding one...?

Heh heh! Hey, I don't think it's offensive, it's like any of us who use artwork and other media as tributes, you know? |
Oh yes, totally agree! I had written that bit about potential offensiveness, because I didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea about this guys intentions.. Especially after the great 'Martin Thorpe' disaster, and the call to arms which followed soon after
All the best,
Oldphan

Hi,
It's a seven minute audio clip, The Tiger Lillies bit appears at 4:55 in, no interviews or exclusive music, the two presenters talk about (I presume!) the show and a couple of album clips are played.
How informative!

I can't hear it too, but the text means, more or less:
"...Back to the theater tent "Grand Chapiteau": At the beginning of the festival three garishly dressed gentlemen appeared here with accordion, bass and drums and evoked a revue of bizarre characters. The „Tiger Lillies“ presented their „Freakshow“.
„The ‚Tiger Lillies Freakshow’ is something of a dark-circus-show, following the atmosphere of the fairgrounds and sideshows of the early 20th century, where the woman with the long hair or Siamese twins were on exhibition. This is a subject the ‚Tiger Lillies' play with. It’s about historical and contemporary freaks and the question of who is the freak in the end: Oneself, the spectator, or the people on stage? "said Christiane Stenzel from the festival office.
Even when the scenic illustrations by director Sebastiano Toma might not have overwhelmed all spectators - the musical side of the freak show, centered on singer and composer Martyn Jacques and his distinctive voice that alternates between rasp and falsetto, filled with enthusiasm and gave Tollwood a highly acclaimed, eerily beautiful opener."

Thanks for this Witwe! I really liked the descriptions they use. Very picturesque, makes it so easy to imagine.

Welcome. By the way, should it have been "Even if" instead of "even when"? And can you "sport" a musical instrument or just some garb? I try to improve my English, have little practice in it.

"Even when" doesn't sound so bad. And I think you can "sport" an instrument, I don't see why not!
Your English is great Witwe. Your translation reads really well. Thanks again!

Thanks for trying it out Peter, and for the great translation of the text, Witwe! Your English is wonderful - one hell of a lot better than my German, thats for sure

There was a change of plans for the radio show in Germany, that was doing some kind of coverage of the recent Cafe Kesse show - Witwe Bolte mentioned the original date in another thread. it was supposed to have aired on the 11th of this month, but it's now been moved to March 11th instead, and apparently will include an interview... It's on a show called Neopostdadasurrealpunkshow (Apparently no spaces? That's one hell of a handle...) Here's the new listing on their site:
http://www.fsk-hh.org/transmitter/neopostdadasurrealpunkshow/53054
 |
 |
Start: 11.03.2010 - 17:00
End: 11.03.2010 - 19:00
Kurzbeschreibung:

Fuck. looks like we just missed one... It was aired on the 24th of this month, on fm4.orf:
http://fm4.orf.at/ondrusova
I caught the Twitter alert about it a few hours to late, and I don't think they will be up-loading an Mp3 or anything of it to that ORF site *pouts* Here's a photo from the session though..:

Little bit of an update on this show - FSK has uploaded a short preview of their interview with Martyn here:
http://www.neopostdadasurrealpunkshow.de/?p=138
and here:
http://www.fsk-hh.org/blog/neopostpunk/2010/02/28/tiger_lillies_am_1132010_interviewauszug
The full interview will be around 35 minuets long, and I've been told the whole thing will be uploaded to that first link after the show. But check the information above if you want to catch it's premier on the 11th!
All the best,
Oldphan

"Carne Cruda: Tiger Lillies. Cabaret deslenguado (05 febrero 2010)"
Mwhahahahah, found another one. I believe it was recorded the day that they last played in Madrid, and it includes a fairly long interview, and they preform 3 songs - ALL of them being the new material - very different versions of those songs than what we have heard so far in some cases. For instance, that I Want To Kill Myself song, is I Want To Stab Myself this time around. The other songs are Rotting Vegetables and Last Breath, (Still not sure on the real title of that last one.) The whole show is downloadable for free right below the description!:

Thanks for posting the Carne Cruda show/interview Oldphan. The Tiger Lillies seemed to be having a great time with the host and his sidekick or translator. I wonder if the host of Carne Cruda is something like a morning radio or any time DJ like we have in the US ? His style was very similar to a few I hear. The questions he asked were funny and I FINALLY found out THE ONE THING Martyn will not write a song about . Everyone (including me - the listener) was laughing at many of the Tiger Lillies answers and reactions to statements from the host. Very Amusing!

Totaly dropped the ball on this one, I couldn't be home in time to catch it So I'm not sure if they played it or not, though I think they did... Where did you see that date change, Wings?
Witwe Bolte, did you get to hear it?

Little bit of an update on that last radio show - it should be on their site sometime over the weekend, or on Monday or so. So it's not lost! And they DID play it on the 11th.
I also found these, they aren't that exciting as they don't have interviews/live performances... Still thought they were interesting though... What little I could make out that is. Neither one is in English!

And your more than welcome, Guernie, I'm glad you enjoyed that one! I did to. I just wish the hosts had shut up a bit more and let them talk, lol. Thats got to be hard with a translator and all that in the way though, I can imagine.
All the best,
Oldphan
